K.E. Stanton (known by the general populace as Kiki) is a devout writer of science fiction. While she has dabbled in historical fiction, contemporary, and fantasy, she has found science fiction to be both where she feels called and her creativity thrives.
Having been in the business of storytelling for over half her life, and with nearly a decade of industry experience under her belt, Kiki has learned the ins and outs of the creative world, both when it comes to publishing and penning that meticulous first draft. She has received mentorship from published authors, mentored young authors of her own, and time and time again has worked through bringing a story from its messy first draft to a glittering product that garners interest from both agents and publishers.
She doesn’t believe in boxes, restrictions, or that there is one way to write a story. Instead, Kiki believes firmly in the individual God-given voice, being bold enough to stand out from the crowd, and daring to stir up the waters.
When not writing or editing her own out-of-this-world (literally) novels, Kiki can be found perusing the library, going on another adventure, baking up healthy concoctions or daydreaming about the future.

Line Editing
what it includes:
Line editing focuses on creativity and readability at the sentence, paragraph, and scene levels, when you are happy with your story and structure but want to elevate your prose.
Individual needs vary, but I often encounter these issues:
- overused words
- awkward phrases
- unnecessary words and phrases (and sometimes sentences, or even scenes)
- tense shifts
- inconsistent narrator/point of view (such as “head hopping”)
- clunky sentence structure
- weak transitions
- passive verbs and sentences
- bad dialogue tags (maybe overcompensating for weak dialogue)
- plot inconsistencies
The process of line editing naturally eliminates many grammar and punctuation errors; however, that is not the primary goal. While considering how the message is conveyed, a line editor will not obsess over every comma or hyphen the way a copy editor will. Authors often make changes after line editing as well, so copy editing is recommended for the final draft.
You’re Ready for Line Edits If…
~Your book has already undergone some sort of content/story edit in the form of a developmental edit, alpha and beta read, and a round of self edits.
~You know your story is solid but you are wanting to work on your prose, readability, continuity etc.
Line editing is considered the second to last round of edits you will do on your novel! It’s detailed and nitty gritty, but it is not for bit story elements like plot, character arcs and development etc. If your story has not undergone these types of edits, we recommend you check our Developmental Edit Package!

Copy Editing
what it includes:
Copy editing focuses on grammar and style, when you are happy with your final draft and ready to have a professional editor fix US English mechanical errors and style inconsistencies. Also known as a Proof Read.
Every manuscript is unique, but some mistakes are common:
- repeated words (such as “the the”)
- homophone errors (such as “peak,” “peek,” and “pique”)
- missing or unnecessary commas
- extra spaces
- incorrect word usage (such as “that” versus “which”)
- inconsistent spelling of words or names (such as “okay,” “ok,” and “OK”)
- inconsistent style (especially numbers and the serial comma)
- run-ons and fragments
- overcapitalization
- hyphenation errors
Copy editing is the last editing stage before a manuscript goes to layout and design. This means the author is happy with the content and will make no further changes unless the copy editor finds an issue that must be addressed, so the focus remains on technical details. However, a thorough copy editor may add an occasional creative note if an item stands out, such as an overused word or a confusing passage.
You’re Ready for Copy Edit if…
~You have already received a round of story edits, AND a round of Line edits or the equivalent.
~Your book is nearly ready to publish and you need the final round of edits to eliminate typos and grammatical errors.
